Namba Yasaka Shrine

Namba Yasaka Shrine

Not to be confused with Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, Namba Yasaka Shrine is a short walk from Namba Station and well worth a visit to see the giant lion's head that makes up part of the shrine.

Just like many other shrines, Namba Yasaka Shrine used to have a multistorey pagoda but it was destroyed during the second world war and now the rebuilt structures stand in its place. The history surrounding the lion's head is somewhat unclear, though it is meant to swallow any bad luck or evil that might be bothering you and replace it with good luck.
